I bought a DS a couple months back that needed a new bottom screen. I bought a replacement screen and a new case to change the color. I took everything apart and put the new screen on and placed it all in the new case. Before putting the bottom back on, I slid the battery on and turned it on. Powered up fine. So I took the batter out and put the bottom on, screwing everything into place. Turned it on, the light flashed at me then it went back off. So I hooked it up to charge, the orange light flashed then turned off. I figured I did something to the motherboard so I went and bought another DS with a broken touch screen. I tested it, it powered on just fine. So I opened it up, put my new screens on it and placed it in my moded case from before. Now, it won't power on. Is there something obvious I'm missing here? Checking out the previous board, it won't power on at all anymore either. Not even the 2 second green light. I didn't shock anything, didn't squeeze anything, and was very careful. All my ribbons are secure. Just feels like with similar problems, I must be missing something. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Make sure all the wires are where they're supposed to be and make sure the screens are plugged in all the way. You really have to push them in up to the little "ears" in the cable.

I checked all the ribbons and redid the at least half a dozen times. I even put back together the last one I bought just in case the top of the modded one had a lose ribbon. I made sure to connect the antenna and speakers for good measure and still nothing powering on. All three ribbons on the bottom seem secure. The two larger ones are up to their ears and the smaller one is in as far as it will go.

Did you check the fuses?

The fuses look intact to me, but I haven't tested fuses since tech school.  Sad I'm thinking I might just have to put it all in a box and send it to you before I get a migraine.

Wow does this sound familiar.  I just finished changing the bottom screen on my son's DS Lite and when I went to turn it on, nothing.  All I get is about 1 second of the orange light when I use the power supply.  I got a brief glimpse of the green light once on the battery, but that was it.

I followed your advice and it appears that the F2 fuse is blown.  The F1 fuse hase a good reading.  Now the big question...how do you change it?  It's so dang small!!!

OK, I figured out the fuse issue and now that is all set.  BUT, the unit still doesn't turn on.  If I plug it in I get the orange charging light.  I even get voltage to the battery terminals.  However the unit won't turn on.  I checked the battery in another unit and it is fine.

I also checked the switch and it is working.  Any other suggestions before it becomes junk?  I don't think the motherboard is worth replacing is it?

A motherboard is cheaper then another working DS, but then again, I am on my second mobo and managed to get it to stop working too. I just wanted a new case and bottom screen!

That's my fear.

I checked the input voltage - Just over 5.2 volts.
I checked the battery terminal voltage - 3.5 volts
I checked the power switch and it seems to be working
F1 and F2 are both 0.0 Ohms

All I was trying to do it replace a cracked bottom screen.  Now it looks like the motherboard is fried.  The stupid thing is only a couple months old!  If I buy a new board and it still doesn't work I'm gonna be PO'd.  But at what point do you stop throwing good money after bad?

I spoke with a guy that fixes these things today.  He said if you don't insulate the new screen from the motherboard during installation you'll fry the motherboard.  I'll have to check when I get home tonight, but I don't remember the new replacement screen having any insulating tape on it when I put it in.  That could very well be the problem.

$69.95 to replace the motherboard  Yee Haaa!!!

I got rid of my electronics kit a few years back so both my volt meters are gone. Could be my fuses. Dunno. It is odd that I managed to get two mobos to stop working though. The insulation on the bottom screen does make sense. I never thought about it but the new one is bare metal and the old ones have foam. So it possible that turning it on might have blown a fuse or both.  I'm not sure if this helps you, but its a link to advice on how to fix the fuses in a DS lite. Might give it a go if you have nothing else to lose with your mobo. http://m3wiki.com/index.php/Nintendo_DS_Lite_:_Repair_a_broken_console_(blown_fuse)

Been there, done that.

When I first checked my fuses F2 was blown.  I was trying to figure out how to change it when I came across that page.  That probably forshadowed the death of my MOBO since the uninsulated screen is probably what caused the fuse to blow in the first place.  By bypassing the fuse I gave it a clear path to totally fry the board.

Yeah, I'm thinking that's what happened to all our mobos. I'm trying one more time, then I quit. This time insulation and everything. Bah if it fails!
