broken DS

I have a DS and the hinge broke and now the top screen won't work. How can I tell if the screen itself is broken or just the connection to the bottom half? I don't want to buy a new screen and replace it and it still not work. Is there any one out there that can offer any suggestions?

If the top screen quit working chances are good that the cable is torn/damaged. If that's the case the only thing you can do is replace the screen. The only way to make sure is to open up the ds and take a look.
